I was so happy to photograph my dear friend, Betsy, and her fiance, Jason, yesterday in and around Washington, D.C. I met Betsy a few months into our Freshman year at the University of Alabama in 1999. She was looking to join a sorority and she ended up joining my sorority, Gamma Phi Beta, and became my little sister. We have been so close ever since. We did road trips, our parents all met and got along great, and since they lived in the same hometown of Huntsville, Alabama, they started getting together even without us (for instance our dads would play golf together). We were there for each other through the worst of times (she surprised me and traveled very long distances to get to me for both of my parents' funerals and it was amazing to see her, hug her and cry with her) and the best of times. And I couldn't be happier that she asked me to photograph her engagement session after she and Jason got engaged. I can't wait for her wedding later this year back in our home state of Alabama and I am so thrilled that my dearest friend finally found the love of her life! Congrats to you both and may you have each other now to lean on through all the best times and the hard times like Betsy and I were there for each other in the past! We started and ended at the home the couple will reside in after
their wedding (Your first home as husband and wife will always
hold special memories for you both). First we started with taking
photos in their backyard and then (after they changed into their
second outfits),we went to a park in the center of Washington,
D.C. All the photos of them in blue were at the park and all the
photos of them in purple were done at their soon-to-be home.
Jason did a fabulous job of picking out Betsy's ring.
Everybody loves it!
I photographed their engagement session during Washington's
famous, Cherry Blossom festival, so we had to do one shot
with a cherry blossom bud!

I saw this idea a while ago about doing photos of them with
a picnic-style setting and had to do it. They turned out so
cute! The picnic basket and books in the corner were my
parents so they hold special meaning (they loved you,
Betsy and I know they are smiling down on you and so
happy for you). The quilt they are on also holds special
meaning because Betsy's grandmother hand-made it.
Betsy had asked me to take a photo of them in their lounge
chairs in their backyard and I think it turned out so cute!
This field of flowers is in their backyard and it is so
romanticfor this photo! Looks straight out of a fairytale!
Jason is one very tall guy, especially compared to Betsy,
who is not very short (especially compared to the 5'0" me).
Betsy, you are beautiful both inside and out! I love this photo of
you! You are an amazing Christian woman who gives the Lord
so much of your time and talents in the United States and through-
out the world. I can't wait to see the places the two of you will go
together in continuing to help those less fortunate and spreading
the Gospel of Jesus Christ.
The next two photos were at the end of our photo shoot. After
we left the park in D.C. we went back to their future home and
I grabbed these next two shots in the front of their place. Then
I got back into my car and droveback to my home in Pennsylvania.
