Carlisle Theater Follies 2009

This weekend I’m performing in the Carlisle Theater’s Follies 2009. It is a fundraiser for our great little theater in the town I live in. We have been practicing hard for two months and now it’s time for the show (Friday and Saturday March 27 and 28 at 7:30 P.M.). The theme is “70 Years of Entertainment” as the theater is celebrating its 70th anniversary. As you will see through the pictures, the show highlights world history, local history, and theater/film history. I am singing a solo from “The Sound of Music”. These photos are from our last practice.

The show moves through decades of time and there are props

showcasing each decade. The theater opened in 1939, showing

films like “The Wizard of Oz”, “Gone with the Wind”,

as well as films starring Shirley Temple.

Soprano, Linda Applegate (who is originally from

England) sings “Somewhere over the Rainbow.”

Seen here is the chorus, who sings throughout the

entire show. I sit in the middle of the front row.

During the years 1940 through 1949, the film “Oklahoma”

was released. Shanna Rae sings “Out of My Dreams”

from that beloved musical.

Along with the chorus, the Follies Dancers perform
throughout the show. Here is a Jolie Rankin performing
during “Boogie Woogie Bugle Boy”.

During the years 1950-1959, Bonnie Berk plays

Lucy of “I Love Lucy” for a hilarious skit.

Sean Shambaugh plays Dick Clark with Kristina Wilday on American Bandstand.

West Side Story came out in the years 1960-1969.

For the years 1980 through 1989, the movie “Jaws”

was released as a 3D movie. Patrons were given polarized
glasses for the showing of the film. Seen here is a cute skit

depicting patrons seeing the film in 3D.

Orlando Vacation - Epcot (Part 5)

The last park we went to was Walt Disney World's Epcot. The park is broken up into two parts: Future World (having to do with space and future modes of transportation) and World Showcase (There are 12 countries represented with stores selling goods from that culture and restaurants in each country).

Once we walked through the Future World, it was

off to the World Showcase. The next two photos

are from the United Kingdom.

From the United Kingdom, you cross over

the bridge and you are looking at France.

From France, you go past Morocco and then to Japan.

We ate dinner here and had Japanese food.

From Japan, you can look out across a lake and

see the golf ball on the other side of the park.

From Japan, you walk past the USA (which is represented

by Colonial Williamsburg) and step into Venice, Italy. This area

is made to look like Piazza San Marco. I saw Venice,

Florence and Rome with my family in 1999.

From Italy, you go into Germany. Toby bought $30 worth

of German chocolates while I looked at beautiful

hand-painted German Christmas ornaments.

From Germany, you walk past China, Norway, Africa

and into Mexico. Here is a replica of a Mayan temple.

Then we walked past the golf ball (which was

all lit up at night) as we left the park.

Orlando Vacation - Hollywood Studios (Part 4)

On our 3rd and final day in Orlando, we went to

two parks: Hollywood Studios the first half of the

day and Epcot the 2nd half of the day. The Magic of Disney Animation is where you can see

how they bring each character to life from a drawing

to an animated character.

Then we went to the Indiana Jones Epic Stunt

Spectacular. Here is Indy in a sword fight.

Then a large explosion!

While everything was going on, the

director and producers got it all on film.

Then we went and rode the Twilight Zone Tower of Terror.

It was a crazy ride where you ride up an elevator to the top

of the tower, they open the door and you look out over the

entire park and then the elevator drops several stories.

Toby and I were in the front seats and it was just crazy!

We went and saw a performance of Beauty and the Beast.

Orlando Vacation - Sea World (Part 3)

On our 2nd full day in Orlando, we went to Sea World. The shows were amazing and all the trainers and animals were great! We had a terrific day!

First we went to the Whale & Dolphin

Theater to see the show "Blue Horizons".
Then one of the trainers rode

on the back of this dolphin!

Throughout the show, performers came

out and it was like Cirque du Soleil.

Next we went to Shamu Stadium

and watched killer whales perform

in the show "Believe".

The tank of water was set up above

ground so we could see the whales

swimming in the water below the surface

as well as jumping up above.

The last show we saw was at Sea Lion & Otter Stadium. It was

like a comedy routine with people, sea lions and an otter and the

whole thing took place on a ship-wrecked pirate ship.

The show was titled "Clyde and Seamore Take Pirate Island". Those were

the names of the two sea lions seen here dancing with the pirates.

Then we went to the Penguin Encounter attraction and

got to see a lot of different species of penguins.

We also went to the Wild Arctic attraction and saw polar bears and walruses.

They also had a place called Dolphin Nursery and it was for baby dolphins

who were still nursing with their mothers and pregnant dolphins.

Dolphins have such sweet faces and so much expression in their eyes.

While walking on our way out of the park we saw these

street performers on stilts. They were dancing and playing the

drums while a large crowd of people stopped to watch.
