York Fair

My husband's family moved to Central Pennsylvania when he was in middle school from a suburb of Pittsburgh. Even though he has lived here most of his life, he had never been to the York Fair (located about an hour away from where we live). The fair is the oldest one in America (it has been around since 1765). It is a huge gathering filled by so many food carts, concert stages, animal exhibits and rides. When I heard about it, I immediately wanted to go. It was exciting that every day there were various ways to get in free because our state is hurting so bad with one of the nation's highest unemployment rates. So, we picked a day that we could get in free and planned on eating dinner there. Toby got an Italian sausage sub with peppers and mushrooms and I got a Greek chicken gyro along with homemade lemonade to share. Later, we ate a funnel cake for dessert. So yummy! We had a blast and these are some of the photos I got while we were there.

Labor Day Weekend Trip (Part 2 of 2)

Our vacation continued on Sunday of the long holiday weekend. We went fishing with my mom's cousin and his wife on their beautiful boat. We had a wonderful time fishing, laughing, and eating great food that my mom made and took with us.

Labor Day Weekend Trip (Part 1 of 2)

My husband, Toby, and I went away on vacation for the long holiday weekend. We went to my family's home in southern Virginia to visit with my mom and sister. I am originally from Alabama and I (along with my parents) went to the University of Alabama. College football is huge in the south and because my state didn't have any professional teams, everyone cheered for the the two major universities (Alabama and Auburn). Now, my husband is different because he was raised outside Pittsburgh where pro-teams are everything. So when we got together, it was easy for us to cheer on each other's teams because there were no conflicting interests. He has learned all about SEC football and one of the nations biggest college rivalries and I have learned all about the Steelers. We even have a flag pole that hangs outside of our house and my Alabama flag hangs on Saturdays and his Steelers flag hangs on Sundays. It worked out perfectly that the opening day of college football was on the first day of the weekend. Alabama played Virginia Tech in Atlanta's Georgia Dome. It was one of the biggest games of that opening weekend and even ESPN's Game Day was on hand to celebrate. The game was huge because both teams were ranked in the Top Ten, but it was Alabama that came away the victor. My mom had ordered all four of us new Alabama t-shirts to wear along with having our pom-poms. These are some pictures from that first day there.

Happy Labor Day!

I just wanted to wish everyone a safe and happy holiday weekend and I hope you all get to enjoy it with family and friends. My husband and I are headed to southern Virginia to visit with my family. We have some fun stuff planned for the weekend and hopefully I will have some pictures to share with everyone when we come back. Since a post is always better with a picture, here's a photo of my husband and our dog, Guiseppie.
